Grrr

Well, so much for me and my plans. It's nearly five, I'm still not asleep and that means tomorrow is likely to be a bust. If I'm awake after 4 am, my brain simply doesn't work properly the next day.
It would help if a) the cats would leave some room for the marquis so that b) his knees cease migrating into my side of the bed and c) if he could see fit to stop snoring.
And I'm out of nytol. So I guess this goes down as yet another white night. Bah.

Useful things to help you fall asleep: Benadryl (I don't know what it's called over there, but it's a cold/allergy medicine that is also marketed as a sleep aid. It works great.). Chamomile tea. Ear plugs. Wine.

I realize at this point that none of this is helpful. Sorry. See what you can do tomorrow.

Or if you're bored, I could call you, but only on a land line.

In the end, I read for two hours (with snacks) then took temazepam. And thus lost all of today. Boo.

Poor you!

It's no help, but I'm suffering in exactly the same way, as I'm recently back from the West Coast Canada/USA, jet-lagged to hell and gone. Sleep, who needs it? Um... And yeah, the Nytol isn't working.

I find it all gets much worse as I age.

This is what the Internet is great for, late night/early morning company.

It is amazing how someone as small as a cat can push a much larger human around. Rhodri Cat used to have me practically on the floor, because he wanted Howard all to himself.

Here's another unable to sleep!

Hope you got some rest.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2010-11-08 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope you managed to sleep eventually.

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2010-11-08 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Got in a good solid five hours, thanks!

[identity profile] uk-sef.livejournal.com 2010-11-08 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
It was a bad night here too. Are yours frequent enough that it would be worth consulting a doctor/pharmacist about them? Or are they mostly self-inflicted (from not having a proper routine)?

[identity profile] uk-sef.livejournal.com 2010-11-08 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
PS I suppose you've ruled out sleeping in a room and bed on your own? It eliminates the cat and snoring issues but doesn't magically get rid of colds etc.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2010-11-08 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Alas, sleeping apart makes the cats even more excitable. Two humans to wake.
I hope you got some sleep eventually.

Sympathies--sleepless nights are wretched.

Dr Monkey prescribes being gentle on yourself and not trying to do much brain work today. Cuddle cats instead! But if you can summon the energy for a trip to the gym, those are really good for sleep patterns too.

Things that (sometimes) work for me are:
herb tea with valerian in it
hot baths
for snoring and cats I find there's a kind of slow shove that can make them change position without quite waking up (apes) or becoming too indignant (felines) and this is sometimes enough to fix the problem.

If you want a free sample of girl-size pink ear plugs, I have a large packet here that I ordered to stock up against neighbour noise and I'm not using them much since this year's neighbours are beautifully quiet. Or google snorestore and select your own. They are really good and usually arrive the next day.

Thank you: I may take you up on the earplugs.

[identity profile] themis1.livejournal.com 2010-11-08 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Boots wax earplugs. The Gentleman Caller snores, and I find they don't cut the noise out completely, but mute it enough that I can ignore it. They were also very useful when stuck in hospital in an open ward. And convention hotels ... in fact, I never travel without them.

And worse, I use them in the open plan office when the noise gets to me.

If I ever lose my hearing, I wonder if I'll actually notice?!

[identity profile] ms-cataclysm.livejournal.com 2010-11-08 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
Would you like me to drop round some unused earplugs to try?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2010-11-08 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That's kind, but I found some old ones here.

[identity profile] queenoftheskies.livejournal.com 2010-11-08 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Cats are often a source of sleeplessness, I find. Snoring is a killer, too. My daughter snores like a freight train, so I sympathize.

I hope you were able to get some sleep, ultimately, and that you have the chance to catch up a bit today.

Here's wishing you better sleep tonight.

[identity profile] stina-leicht.livejournal.com 2010-11-08 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
i'd recommend having your marquis checked for sleep apnea or night-time allergies. i snore a little and my husband says i snore far less if i've taken my allergy medication. (i'd start with the allergy meds first. it's cheaper. ;))

i'm so sorry you had a tough time sleeping. it sounds awful. [hugs]

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2010-11-08 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
He snores more when he has a cold, which he does at present.
