A question for the hive mind

I need a webcam in the utility room.
How on earth did Ish manage to bring a fully adult squirrel with rigor mortis in through the cat flap?
(I'm not going to speculate on how it died, other than that it had no visible wounds or injuries. He clearly found it somewhere. He didn't get to eat it: I removed it promptly.)

The marquis is a lot better today. he gave in and talked to a doctor, who decided that any flu had gone and the problem was a chest infection. He now has antibiotics and is a lot happier.

Are you sure it had rigor mortis when he brought it in?

I'm glad the marquis is feeling better--thank goodness he went to the doctor after all and got those antibiotics.

It may not have, of course -- but when he tries to stash things for later, Horus usually finds them first and brings them to show me. (Ish is sneaky -- I only made this discovery because of odd thumping from the back bedroom.)

Probably the same way as Mungo managed a fully grown (and thankfully dead) Magpie. With a lot of clattering and complaining. Unfortunately I only heard the act since I was in another room at the time and only saw him once he'd got the thing in but the look of satisfaction on his face as he dumped his prize in the middle of the carpet was something to see.

That's a big present!

Trevor's Hardy once brought in an entire box of Kentucky Fried Chicken, which given that the nearest KFC is about 20 miles distant was both weird and impressive.

Panda is very jealous. She has views about Squiggles.

Someone brought Captain Enthusiastic a squirrel for his birthday on Sunday - it's not the first one we've had delivered. Cause of death unknown :-(

The funny thing is that, apparently like your present, they turn up in the middle of the carpet while everyone is around, and no-one sees the cat flap part. I suspect Siamese ingenuity.

Glad to hear the marquis is feeling better - the MIB seems to have cheered up too.

We once had a pair of very inbred Siamese cats who managed to snag a frozen chicken from someone's kitchen and drag it back to the house we were living in at the time. It was a hot night and I assume that some poor soul was defrosting the chicken near an open window. It arrived much worse for wear and still too frozen for the cats to eat. They were furious when I took it away and threw it in the garbage, then put a large rock on top of the lid of the garbage can.

Amazing what one can do when determined.

We never get presents, except once when Senior Cat was young and brought us a bird. He was berated, opened his mouth to protest, and the bird flew away. Senior Cat was abandoned young by his mother's evil owner (for not being a purebred Persian, his father having been, rather obviously, some passing orange tom) and has been fed on demand for the last 14 years, so has never quite got the hang of this hunting thing.

All our other cats have tended to eat their kills without bringing them into the house. I think it's because they're indoor-outdoor cats of, shall we say, mixed ancestry, and much closer to feral than the purebreds.

Please to be remembering that cats can teleport!

We had a cat who used to bring in presents for the dog. They usually alive... Then there was the workmate whose half Siamese boy (Cassius) brought in a dead pigeon and dropped it behind the radiator.

My mum's cat brought a live thrush into her bedroom once.

My friend's cat used to bring home strings of sausages, pork pies, even a full roast chicken once.

Nothing with rigor mortis, though. That's impressive.

My friend and neighbor lived under our flat in Norwich at one time. Our cats played chase round one house then down to the other and round it then up to mine.
One day we stood laughing so hard we had to hold onto each other as Tal, my black Burmese X, tried to drag her frozen turkey off her stove and down her hallway to the door.. The turkey was huge ... We did rescue it and it wasn't damaged any as still in its wrapper at that point as she had just put it out and come to talk to me.

Glad to hear the Marquis is feeling a lot better.
I am trying not to let my 2nd dose of holiday flu turn into bronchitis but difficult as with the El Nina storms here and my damp carpets. I have 1 ft by 6 ft of soaking carpets all at the outer edge of my room again. Rain is coming in at ground level so no stopping it for now and the storms are due here till Monday next. :(
The roof is now covered with a stapled down tarp and the windows with plastic sheet again... but I am still getting it coming in windows to a lesser degree. Least the ceiling isn't still leaking on me!

Cats are unbelievable, they really are. (Makes me wonder what Sholan cubs bring home, though!)
The damp sounds infuriating. Surely the landlord should be fixing this for you? I very much hope it dries out soon and you stay healthy.
