Very Important PollTM (Mrs.)

It has come to my attention that LX Con will be my very first convention as a Real Pro with the book out there and all. I am therefore in need, dear f'list, of your collective wisdom. How, in your opinion, should I conduct myself?

[Poll #1376733]

I think you should behave exactly as usual and mention the book to new people as you introduce yourself, but only if asked about it to people whom you already know. If this was a US con I'd advise differently.

However, I have never known you be anything less than gracious. Naturally I consider that I conduct myself with the utmost decorum at all times and thus you should model yourself on me: if you want to be me, I will channel Ian Watson at the next convention, he can channel Tanith, and we can all pass our personalities on in this manner.

Behave exactly as usual only allow yourself to be bought more drinks - your readers are grateful and should be allowed to show it.

Sounds fair: Ian channelled HG Wells a few Novacons back.

That is a wonderful image. I await the sight of Ian in flowing garments eagerly!

Remarkable piece of channelling, too.

You could wear odd-coloured gloves....

[identity profile] bellinghman.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed - option two seems to be distressingly back-to-front. Authors buying more than their shares of the drinks? What, which planet is this? Authors can't afford to do that, the per-copy royalty wouldn't begin to cover it.

(With the exception of PTerry, who can, and does.)

An occasional smug grin would be permissible.

A sort of female Robert Rankin?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2009-04-02 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
Do I do smug? The marquis says I bounce instead.

Oh, that's scary.

You'll need a white suit.

We'll need to appoint a sort of female James Bacon to act as minder.

You owe it to your fandom to try.

(Good point: at what stage will they be issuing you a fandom?)

[identity profile] seph-hazard.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god - you know I'm always encouraging you to do whatever you truly want to do, darling, but please don't do that...

[identity profile] seph-hazard.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
Oooooh, I could do that bit!

[identity profile] seph-hazard.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
ZOMG, I wonder who will write your first slash?

[identity profile] bellinghman.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
I was chatting to Robert's wife [livejournal.com profile] technofairy at Picocon, and she says she has difficulty keeping his sock drawer in order. I'm sure though that the Marquis could keep from imposing some sort of regularity on your glove drawer, if you ask him to refrain.

[identity profile] bellinghman.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
Damn, you beat me to it. I couldn't think of anyone better.

(Though the image of [livejournal.com profile] tamaranth instead flits across my mind.)

I suppose that makes Flick into a sort of female Stef...

Clearly, be yourself but adopt [livejournal.com profile] petermorwood as a role model :D

Hmm. My main memories of the estimable Mr R date to Octocon 2, at which he had Too Much Fun. (I can do the bit where he propositioned the marquis...)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2009-04-02 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
Do I need to fill out a form?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2009-04-02 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
I have my suspicions on this one.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2009-04-02 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
I certainly can't drink that much!
