Strange Horizons

I'm over at Strange Horizons today, as part of a roundtable on representing marginalised voices in historical fiction and sff, alongside two writers I admire a lot, David Anthony Durham and Joyce Chng (aka J Damask). I loved getting to do this: Joyce and David are very insightful people and I learnt a lot; and our moderator Vanessa Rose Phin asked excellent questions. You can find it here:

In other news, the cats are planting themselves in the flowerbeds where the sun is warmest, the wip is progressing slowly and the lilac bush just outside my window is coming into bloom. I like April.

The beastie boys killed their first bird yesterday (a green pigeon). I suspect that it was in the Melastoma bush eating the fruit and Bus-stop Cat launched himself at it from the nearby wall. The housekeeper reported this. They had a nibble at the tail before she confiscated the deceased, but failed to really get through the feathers, not being used to having to prepare their meals themselves. I am most distressed.

I hate it when mine catch birds. it doesn't happen often, thankfully, but it's always sad.

I'm going to have to grow some more Melastoma in the middle of the garden, away from the walls. Luckily it seeds prolifically and I have several seedlings to hand.

This morning, all three of them were there, waiting. Scaredy-cat on the wall, Lap-cat under the bush and Bus-stop Cat on the grassy path.
