Mooncat

Mooncat has kidney failure. We're awaiting test results to find out what kind -- chronic or acute -- and whether it can be managed or treated.
She's not in any pain or discomfort, apart from the indignity of having needles stuck into her, and the annoyance of car travel and having to stay a couple of nights at the vet. She's full of beans and soliciting fuss. I took her for a check-up because her coat was a bit off and she'd been sick a couple of times in the last few days.
She's nearly 12.
I hope it will prove to be treatable. But it may not.

Oh dear, poor Moon. And I second your hopes.

Awww! Poor baby.

Hopefully things will be do-able.

Poor girl. I hope things do work out well for her.

I'm so sorry. You know Mooncat is my favourite cat after the Great White Zil but ahead of all boycats (even-ssshhhhhh-themonkeycats).

I hope she can be treated and continue to enjoy herself with her usual elegance and authority.

If it helps, Hillary The World's Most Perfect Cat started in kidney failure four years ago. He's nearly 18 now, doddery and sometimes confused, but has plenty of energy and an excellent appetite for his special gooshy food. We also found a dry food that works for him, and that has made a big difference to his overall health and energy levels.

The old orange cat before him started the spiral at 12 and made it to almost 17--and he had other health problems, too.

This is mortality knocking at the door, but with care and management, kidney failure can be dealt with. Hillary and I send our very best wishes for continued long and happy life.

I shall hope that this is the route she's on.
And stritches to Hilary, too.

Poor Mooncat. Yes, the indignity must be horrible. And I really, really hope it can be easily managed. What a lovely kitty.

Fingers crossed for good news.

I'm sorry to hear this and I hope it is treatable. But as several others have said, many cats in their, shall we say, mature years, develop this where once they would not have lived long enough to do so. And with modern medecines and special food, do perfectly well for years to come. I hope for the best.

Oh, poor girl. Hope everything is as OK as it can be. Best wishes to her and you.

Will do. She's a lovely sweet natured girl.

Hope she is OK and that it's treatable. Best wishes to you both.

Alas, cat kidneys seem to be one of the things that stops functioning first. Maybe it's because they're desert animals and their kidneys have to work so hard in concentrating their urine.

Sometimes a special diet can help by reducing the protein load. Subcutaneous dialysis can keep a cat going for a long time - like years. But not all cats will tolerate it, and some that do will just reach a point where they've had enough. They give you the I'm Done Look.

Here's hoping the best for Mooncat and her family. Shakir and Gayatri send encouraging meows.

Thank you. We are hoping... In herself, she's perfectly cheerful: bouncy and affectionate.

Ohhhhh, poor kitty. Fingers crossed for her.

:( poor mooncat
seconding your hopes and big hugs

Most renal failure is a slow process and can be managed. I think every cat I've ever owned was in one stage or another once they lived past eight. Here's to the best possible outcome.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2014-01-09 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I do hope so.

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2014-01-09 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That can often be controlled--I hope that is the case for Mooncat.

Oh, dear. But 'full of beans' is good.

Here's hoping for Moon.
