Folk Bagpipe Metal

This is too wonderful not to share. I want to know who these guys are, so I can find CDs.

that's so awesome! (they sound a bit like 'celtic metallers' Eluveitie)

They do. I hope they do well:there's serious talent here.

Apparently - according to another poster on YouTube, they're called Gral. I have absolutely no further information on them - they do not appear to have an internet presence that I can find - but yep, I'd love a CD of that, too.

Thank you. I shall note that down and hope I find them somewhere.

Are they the ones who were busking in Cambridge a few weeks back? The had bagpipes and were called Gral but no guitar when I saw them. [livejournal.com profile] bugshaw and [livejournal.com profile] ms_cataclysm were there too and may remember better.

They seem to be, yes.

Oooh! That is awesome!

Aren't they fabulous? I love this kind of thing.

(Reposting - original post was marked as chopped spiced pork by-product in a tin)

They have a web site at: www dot historicus dot cz slash gral slash gral dot html

MP3s to download on the right hand side of the page.

Thank you ever so much!

Apparently Gral has a CD out; unfortunately the website does not link to it, but there is a German contact address, so I can at least inquire.

Liked it a lot.

Lovely. Thankyou.

They are in the UK at present, apparently, busking.

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2013-06-28 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I LOVE that. I want the music.

(And pause to appreciate the jaw-droppingly beautiful scenery)

Prague is glorious.
They have a website here: http://www.historicus.cz/gral/gral.html though it's in Czech. They have a CD out, I believe.

They are fans of Asterix and Obelix!!!

That's great. Thanks for linking!

They are so talented.

[identity profile] deborahjross.livejournal.com 2013-06-28 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That was indeed wonderful!

[identity profile] klwilliams.livejournal.com 2013-06-28 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That was very cool. Thanks. (Mac looked up in alarm when he heard the bagpipes, from where he's snoozing on my desk.)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2013-06-29 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
I love their costumes, too: just an all-round performance. (None of my cats were in the room when I found it, but generally they aren't sure about bagpipes either.)

You might also enjoy Piva, Blast from the Past and the German group Elster Silberflug who present a mixture of folk and early music. Though for bagpipe rock (without the early music) you still can't beat Runrig.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2013-07-01 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
I *love* Runrig! They used to play Cambridge annually in the 80s and 90s, I was always there.
I will look out for those others; thank you.
