I grew up in the desert where it could get to 120F in the summer, but with very little humidity. Then I spent a decade and a half in the Midwest, where in the summer the heat + humidity would make you sweat as soon as you got out of the shower, and then you'd have to deal with knee- and waist-high snowfall in the winter. I'm acclimated to the extremes. But I still have days in which I am a delicate flower of Southern womanhood and long for a fainting couch and a pitcher of iced tea.
