Baaa!

From [livejournal.com profile] al_zorra:

The rules:

1. Go to page 77 (or 7th) of your current ms
2. Go to line 7
3. Copy down the next 7 lines – sentences or paragraphs – and post them as they’re written. No cheating.

"Earlier this morning, while madame slept and Mado and the cook were occupied in the kitchen, she had slipped into the small room that de Faumont used as his study and gone through the papers in his desk. They were, almost without exception, requests from this person or that for de Faumont to pay money in exchange for goods or services he had received. Qiaqia knew about money: she had had numerous opportunities to observe it in action on her journey with Aude and Jehan. It struck her as a flawed system, easily subject to abuse or falsification. But then, the..."

"In the area known as The Hole, the 23rd Street Mission towers a single story higher than any other building in the neighborhood. That includes the old abandoned foundry that sprawls for, from what most of the kids can tell, endless blocks of twists, turns, and hideaways. Out the front door of the Mission and across the street to the north is what’s left of a rundown park. It was probably quite the prize in its day, extending all the way down to the river and paralleling the foundry. Now though, it’s either a dust bowl or mud pit depending on the weather. Despite this, it’s one of the safest places around, especially for the kids. See, all the kids know the foundry maze. We old-timers teach the younger ones - and the short-timers who are just passing through." - Darke Elysium, Canto 7, sentences 1-7.

I quite enjoy these because of not knowing context or anything, and how different each of our contributions are!

Of course most people are writing fiction, which I'm currently an exception to. But I think maybe my mission presently is to remind people that all writers don't write fiction, but are writers nonetheless! :)

Love, C.

Oh - I don't know about that. I have a good friend down Austin-way that's wrapping up a book on The Chicken Ranch (if he hasn't already done so.) Serious research into it history and eventual demise.

I love to read non-fiction in progress. It's hugely important and we don't give it anything like enough attention.

Phoenix had been unlucky in her Guardians, perhaps; or they in her. Poor pious Christabone, done to death in the marketplace by a mob. His preaching did him no good in the end. Curious Pliny fared no better. As he counted barnacles on the foreshore his beard had been caught in a cleft rock, and he had been drowned by the incoming tide. Then there was passionate, honest Gorgotron, that man of wrath. He had never ceased fighting till his body lay shattered at the foot of a ravine. (Phoenix, p.7)

I love those names!

Page 7, since I am currently at 67 pages total in this MS.

My advice to them is to persist, because it’s real and it does hit children. On the other end, people being dismissed as “just getting older” also need to persist. It’s not necessarily “just old age.” Fibro pain is something different, and if you think you’ve got it, find a good doctor until you get the answers you need and deserve.

A third common myth involves exercise. Some say people with fibro should never exercise, while others say exercise will fix everything! In actuality, fibromyalgia is very body-specific, and so individuals must learn their own limits, and uncover what helps and hurts on their own. In general, yoga and gentle stretching do help, and will also improve your mood if you add upbeat meditations to the end of your yoga routine.

Since I'm writing a non-fiction book and all, this isn't likely as intriguing, but still fun! :)

Non-fiction is just as interesting!

Page 77, lines 7-13:
A subgroup will often inherit certain properties from the larger group: in particular, subgroups of abelian groups are also abelian, and subgroups of cyclic groups are also cyclic. We saw a number of examples of subgroups. Every nontrivial group has at least two: itself and the trivial subgroup {e} consisting of just the identity element. The dihedral group Dn contains the rotation subgroup Rn, which is isomorphic to the cyclic group Zn.

Textbooks are a very good thing.

I felt Morel was quite likely a deserter; but as we availed ourself of the dark Kazlari beer in a low hut as far from the encampment as we could get, I figured there was no point getting myself in a tizzy about it. After all I had never seen service in the trenches and it sounded like he had. He smoked continuously and we talked for several hours, as free as it was possible to be in Kazlar with the Bloody Baron’s army in town. We drank to France and England, Vive la Révolution, and God save the King - oddly contradictory sentiments but no matter. We drank until we were rather horribly drunk. And somehow we

‘Are you suggesting we _lie_ to our fathers?’ she asked, shocked.
He nodded carelessly. ‘Yes.’
‘_Why_?’
‘Because I ask you.’
‘Because you ask us to!’
‘Yes. Because I am lord of time and space, and one day I shall rule the galaxy. I am not actually asking you – I am commanding you.’

... Hmmm. Not one of Gray's best moments, but page 7 wasn't much better.

Kusac rapidly searched the memories he'd taken from the late Lord Nayash before killing him and taking his place. Nayash had been well known for his volatile and excessive nature, deriving pleasure from bullying and tormenting his late father's staff, to say nothing of those not considered his personal clique. Well, time to begin as he meant to go on.
"Please do, Laazif," he said. "I didn't expect to inherit my father's title so soon, so any advice you have would be welcome."

(Page 7, only have 35 pages so far, but hope to have more soon!)

And I love your piece... :D

I've been fascinated by all the different snippets, I have to say.
