(no subject)

We had a lovely time in California. We had dinner with [livejournal.com profile] sartorias at a fabulous Mexican restaurant, and talked. I got to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] zaan, who I do not get to see anything like often enough. We attended the Wedding Of The Year.
And we got to fly business class on the way home, due to an upgrade.
I am shattered, but in a good way.

Welcome home! :-)

Thank you.
It's good to be home, but it would be nice if all of you were nearer.

Yes: yes it would!

Business class, woo hoo!

So glad you got to attend the Wedding!

It was a lovely wedding, and everyone looked fabulous.
Business class was quite the experience, too.
I haven't forgotten that we're sending you a book: I'm aiming to get it posted tomorrow.

Thank you! I look forward to that read.

It sounds fabulous! We have been admiring pictures.

The outfits were indeed splendid.

Sounds like a great trip. I love it when the serendipitous upgrades to business happen...the two times in my travelling life they have happened...

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-04-19 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
This was my first time. So much more comfortable...

[identity profile] deborahjross.livejournal.com 2012-04-19 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
How very lovely to see you (and Le Marquis, too), although not at the same time as [livejournal.com profile] sartorias -- that would have been mind-splinteringly splendid. We shall have to arrange in for next time.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-04-19 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, absolutely.

Sleepy. But there are puffins!

Good to have you back :)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-04-19 11:59 am (UTC)(link)
We must try and get together soon!

It was wonderful to see you again, and to brainstorm too.

I've once travelled Business class - back from a Dragoncon in 2000, with Banner - he upgraded us to 2 empty seats, It certainly beats coach by a long shot!

Seeing you was the best bit!
We have to find a way to do it more often.

[identity profile] zaan.livejournal.com 2012-04-20 10:05 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed, yes!

[identity profile] cmcmck.livejournal.com 2012-04-19 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
Beat you!

I managed the complete 2,000 words of a review yesterday and a few hundred on my article on Henrietta Maria.

Today sees the other review and more article wordage, hopefully :o)

Sounds as if you had a great trip- we're not long back from cat and hen sitting in Cornwall- some pics already up and more to follow!

Business class is definitely a wonderful way to feel a great deal more comfortable 1) on the homeward-bound end of a trip or 2) when headed from the US to Europe/Britain because the jet lag thing... and even better when it's both of those.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-04-19 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It helped a lot with the tiredness. Which, given I had to drive when we landed, made a big difference.

Oh, California. Oh, Mexican food FROM California. Oh, now I need to make a tray of enchiladas, STAT! Glad you had a fab time. And W00t on the upgrade! I once got sent from Ohio to Alaska first class by my company and it was *Niiiiiice*.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-04-19 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
The food was amazing -- and I say this as a non-foodie.

Great that you got the flight upgrade on the return journey. We've been upgraded twice on overnight transatlantic flights and have really enjoyed it. The stretch-out steats, real food served with metal cutlery - and even a tablecloth on the tray. Not to mention the choice of coffee and the polite: Shall I wake you with tea or coffee in the morning, madam? Oh, yes. Lovely.

BUT... it must be the Yorkshire in me... I'll take it if it's free, but I wouldn't want to pay a couple of thousand pounds for the experience.
:-)
Back in the mmusic turing days, when we had 'silver elite' on Star Alliance's frequent flyer programme, we were also upgraded to business on some internal flights in the USA, but honestly there was very little difference. Maybe the seats were a bit more roomy, but that was about it. If the food was better I would hate to think what the folks in cattle-class were getting.

It does strike me that it's only really a major benefit for long haul flights. And the full price... Scary.
