In which I am an idiot.

So, yesterday, it being fairly bright and crisp here, the marquis and I decided to go for a walk in a local country park. It was lovely -- waterfowl, trees, happy dogs and lots of mud (fun for the under-fours, if their behaviour can be trusted). However, the mud was also in the car park, and, leaving, I skidded and went into a fence post. Result: dented bumper and associated damage. The idiot girl strikes again.
Car is now at the car spa, awaiting mending. Bill anticipated as around £800 (around $1250, for the USians). That about accounts for the payment for the sale of the German rights of Living With Ghosts, then. Bah, humbug.
Of course, this run of poor luck that I've been having this new year may be good in other ways. (I have a theory that luck is limited, and there is only so much to go around, so me having rubbish stuff may be good for others. Well, I can hope.)

Oh, too bad. Cars just know when you have new money (as do major appliances), and love to help you spend it.

[identity profile] woolymonkey.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, as long as no-one was hurt.
And congrats on the German rights sale. I think LWG would go down very well in Germany.

Thank you. I am now car-less till Friday, which will be good for my waistline, too.

[identity profile] fireun.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Bad luck comes in batches, but the good luck that follows is always refreshing as a result.

So sorry to hear about the car! That seems to be going around lately.

[identity profile] bellinghman.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh damn.

Bearing in mind the exceptional count of crashed cars we saw yesterday (on average one per 5 miles!!), I think it may have been a good day not to drive at all.

(It's not much consolation for the damage you did have, but at least your car was only lightly dented - I expect all the ones we saw were write-offs, and at least one had an ambulance in attendance, so your luck could have been worse.)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2011-01-10 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, indeed. This is just me muttering.

[identity profile] fjm.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Given that I understood "skidded and went into a fence post" as "and am in hospital, I am mightily relieved, but still, rotten bad luck.

[identity profile] bellinghman.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, yes, that was my immediate mental image - [livejournal.com profile] bellinghwoman has bruises where her feet went out from under her on Sunday evening getting out of a taxi, onto the verge by the Cambridge Cineworld.

[identity profile] fjm.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ow!

[identity profile] bellinghman.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
We hope so too.

And you're perfectly entitled to mutter and moan. Some other people having an even worse time (and no matter what one's misfortune is, that's almost always the case) should never be used as a reason not to feel unhappy when bad things happen.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2011-01-10 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
It isn't a rational thing. Mostly, it manifests as feeling guilty when I have good luck. I am not sensible.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2011-01-10 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
No harm done at all, not even any bruising, unless the injury to my pride counts. It really was a slow gentle slide and little bump.

Oh dear, poor you and poor car. (I'm really glad I didn't know how slippery the conditions were yesterday until after M and Looby Loo had driven to Royson and back: it's bad enough worrying about my tiny wee offspring doing rugby practice without stressing over the travel as well.)

But, hurray for foreign sales!

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yet another car fixing due here, too, and no payments to balance! Wah!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2011-01-10 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It's ever the way. I'd tucked this payment away in my 'just in case' account a few months back, mostly thinking about tax.

[identity profile] stina-leicht.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay. German rights sold = Yay. Car ding = boo. I prefer to look on it as making room for all the good luck *you'll* have in the coming year.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2011-01-10 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I need to cultivate your positive attitude.

[identity profile] pbray.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh dear. Not a good start to your year.

[identity profile] pbray.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Stuff happens. I once damaged my car backing out of my own garage....

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2011-01-11 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
I am kicking myself because usually I handle skids okay. But as you say, it happens. (My brother once ran his car into the back of his garage -- he hit the wrong pedal and, whoops.)

[identity profile] birdsedge.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, the German sale is good luck, so think positive.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2011-01-10 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, but it was made in 2009. And I was paid in late 2010.

[identity profile] attimes-bracing.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Fence posts need to be punished...

[identity profile] ms-cataclysm.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh poor car (but am relieved to know that you are in one piece).

[identity profile] glass-mountain.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry to hear that, K. Mind you, it does sound as though skidding was pretty unavoidable. Will insurance cover it?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2011-01-11 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, insurance. Don't laugh, but I forgot about it, so I shall be paying. The marquis is laughing at me.

[identity profile] glass-mountain.livejournal.com 2011-01-12 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Argh. That sounds a bit like the travel insurance we forgot to renew (as we found out when we cancelled a week in France last year).

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2011-01-12 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
I have the insurance, it just didn't occur to me to claim. Sigh.

[identity profile] mevennen.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
And who, might I remind you, reversed merrily into your car thus denting the bumper for the first time? (For which I still owe you).

*Not you*.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2011-01-11 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
That was ages ago: please don't worry about it.

[identity profile] queenoftheskies.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry to hear about your car, but glad you're not hurt.

[identity profile] anef.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, dear. Is it worth claiming on the insurance?
