Novacon and other matters
Not very much writing done today, because of the wrist, but I'm pottering away at the Grass King rewrites and quite enjoying it. Aude as a child is huge fun to write and mostly writes herself. Here's another
Nurse behaved as though the world began and ended with the big house and its park, the home farm, the village and the market town that the maids went to every Monday and Thursday. But Aude, perched in the upper branches of her favourite tree, had seen the big black coaches that bowled past the park gates without a glance, their sides painted with coats of arms that were not those of her uncle. She had heard her uncle talking to the estate manager, listing of the rolling names of towns and lands far, far from here. Karvanaroq, where the mysterious being called the emperor lived and Saleranica, the city of stone; Merafi, the old capital; and the twin cities of Silver and Brass. At night, she rolled the names over her tongue, trying to picture them with their strange shining buildings of metal, their gleaming streets, their inhabitants who wore silk and fur.
Aude would go to those places one day, she had decided, when she was a bigger girl of ten or twelve. She would go everywhere, and then come home and tell nurse all about it.
Off to Novacon shortly. See some of you there?
Skirt of the day: blue wedgewood.
