Writing meme day 13: What's your favourite culture to write, fictional or not?

17th century France and its analogues. It's where I feel most comfortable, where I find most resonances and images, storylines and hooks, oblique potentials. I am all about the locked cabinets and the oubliettes, the midnight duels and secret rendezvous, the coded letters and masked glances.

You have so much wonderful cultural knowledge that you bring into your writing. Living with Ghosts felt so rich and full of the depth and culture that so many novels lack.

Thank you! While by training I'm a Celticist, 17th century France is my favourite 'dream' period, and I love to read about it. I'm glad some of that filtered through into LWG.
