Another return to metrics

New words today: 1182
First new line: He was not drunk, not quite, although he had had several cups of Cadog’s mead, and the young monk himself had ended up far from sober.

Owain is startled and rather unsure, Gif is asleep, Teleri (ye heroine) is worried.

I seem to have wasted most of August, what with one thing and another. Will do better this month, I hope.

Meme question 11: Who is your favourite character to write? Least favourite?

My very favourite? Thiercelin. He's my favourite anyway, but he's very easy to write -- I always know exactly what he thinks, what he'd say, what he'd do. In Grass King, I enjoyed Qiaqia most, because she's so spiky, and the ferret women are huge fun. And I love Gif the dog! Least favourite is probably still Iareth Yscoithi, because she was so closed down and oblique. Trying to work out what she wanted used to drive me mad. Abbot Sulien is tricky, too, but for other reasons (not least the danger of silly errors).

I'm glad you wasted the bits of August I got to waste with you :-)

Those bits weren't wasted. I was thinking of the unnecessary naps.

Gracielis is one of those characters who I'm fond of, but want to shake at the same time. But he's growing up.

i never really have the same level of annoyance in characters that others seem to. lots of peoploe hated alec in swordspoint, but i liked him most. i kinda like the cocky shakeable ones :)

I love the sound of the skirt of the day (actually, I always liked the skirt of the day when it shows up).

And: 1182 is great :D. I'm revising. I'm losing words, and half my mind, because I've gone into editing mode, where every word is suspect.

People have asked me before who my favourite characters to write are, and I almost never have a good answer. But I do like my prickly and arrogant characters, and I have one secondary character who's grasp on reality is very tenuous, which makes her a bit unpredictable, and I oddly enough enjoy that. I love writing Jewel, but she's so front and centre, there are times she's caught up in the mid-book agonizing that it's never entirely joy anymore.

There is definitely an appeal to tenuous characters. They are in a weird way very restful.

Gracielis - just the whole concept of an assassin courtesan is so awesome! I love him. Thiercelin is good too, but Joyain I think I like a tad better.

Yeah, I could shake Kusac at times but I love writing him. I can't seem to write Carrie, though! She's too much me even when I try not to make her like me. Kaid is another fav to write about. :) Deep and dark..
