Inventions U Like

So, last night, Ish decided to play dirty stop out and drive us nuts with not coming when called. He eventually strolled in at around 12.30, looking smug and wondering what all the fuss was about. And this reminded on an invention I really want.
I want a GPS locator as part of a cat's identity chip, such that when said cat plays hookey, I can log on and see when he or she is.
(I know there are radio collars, but they're not very practical as they presently stand.)
I want someone to hurry up and invent this, please.
What inventions do you really, really want?

i want that invention :) cos i don't always know where my mogs are.

Good idea.

I want to be able to phone my glasses up when I can't find them, just as I do when I can't find my mobile phone.

[identity profile] desperance.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
You could attach a bluetooth headpiece to your glasses, and then literally phone 'em up...?

[identity profile] lamentables.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
But then I'd need to know in advance that I was going to lose them, for I would not want to be wearing them with headpiece attached :-P

[identity profile] desperance.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. You would need to learn from your own behaviours: such that you would be able to say, "Ah, this is one of those times when I am likely to lose my glasses; remember to attach headpiece!"

[identity profile] leita-love-bug.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a brilliant idea, not only for wandering indoor/outdoor cats, but also for indoor ones that get out and don't know how to get back! :D I say you should call up the patent office, quick!

Well, not on the implant chip, but on the collar :-)

[EDIT: ah, that's probably what you meant by radio collar (now *I* feel so foolish!)]

Here are some
http://www.gps-practice-and-fun.com/gps-pet-tracking.html

But as you can see, some of these are ridiculously large, and will get lost within days!

If they can put a GPS in a mobile phone *and* all that other junk, you'd think they could make a cat tracker smaller ...

Yep, those are the ones I meant. Much too big and not very safe, I think, as they could easily get caught on things.

I'm sure that falconers have very small radio devices to track their hawks (and if it's small enough for a hawk...)

Of course they can imp the ariel to the tail feathers, which helps.

What you need is kitties with wings.

Or perhaps not ;)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2010-06-28 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure that Ish or Horus with wings would be even more of a handful. (Moon of course would be her usual courteous self.)

[identity profile] desperance.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
But they've had these on Stargate for years! How can they be in outer-space adventurers, but not yet available for cats...?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2010-06-28 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. Shocking, isn't it?

[identity profile] desperance.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
(I invented an invention, once. It was a rough-and-ready wordcounter for writers, back in the day when we worked on typewriters [which, for the benefit of the young, did not have a wordcounting feature: we estimated wordcount by actual counting on several pages and then multiplying up]. It was a numerical device that would sit by the keyboard and click on one digit every time the spacebar was depressed. Not exact, 'specially back in the day when some people used multiple spacebar strikes instead of a tab, eg; but close enough. Only almost exactly as I was inventing that, IBM was inventing the PC, with all that that implied...)

It's another example of how the world has denied you your rightful riches. Bah, IBM, bah.

would it be cruel to have something that scares the moggies if they try to pee outside the box?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2010-06-28 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
That's another gadget I'd like!

[identity profile] ci5rod.livejournal.com 2010-06-28 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I suspect the GPS/radio combo draws too much current to make a good microchip, particularly if the radio is going to have the range of (say) a cellphone. I'll toss the idea at some suitable geniuses and marketroids and see what happens :-)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2010-06-29 10:27 am (UTC)(link)
They manage it somehow for migratory birds, and they're smaller than cats. I keep hoping.

[identity profile] aberwyn.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like a MoggieTracker, too. Sign me up if it gets invented.

I want an instant matter transmitter. I am sick of airplane travel, I want to go bip! or maybe shimmer à la Star Trek and be at my destination.

[identity profile] anna-wing.livejournal.com 2010-06-29 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes. Definitely. Though the implications for people are not so good.

But don't wildlife researchers use things like that? Or only for big animals?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2010-06-29 10:29 am (UTC)(link)
They use something on small birds, so there must be some means. Probably horribly expensive, though.
There are already people here using mobil]e phones as child trackers.

http://www.telemetrysolutions.com/quantum-4000-enhanced-gps-collar.php doesn't have prices, but does hhave a "request a quote" form.

Instant teleporter that takes me and what luggage I want - at NO cost of course! - to see friends in the UK or elsewhere, and will also move all my belongings to a new home, AND unpack them in the right places! Having moved 9 times, including the move to the USA, in 6 years, I NEED that!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2010-06-29 10:27 am (UTC)(link)
That's one I want, too. I see far too little of my friends in the US.
