Say what?

A male commentator on Woman's Hour has just come out with a statement to the effect that the pressure on men nowadays to get fit and looks nicer -- use moisturiser etc -- is imposed by women.
Nothing to do with marketing and the saturation of the market for imposing beauty standards on women, oh no. Nothing to do with big business looking for new outlets and new sources of profit, oh no.
Just Teh Women.
I am gobsmacked. And furious. And upset.

But of course, the answer to him should have been. It is only fair, given that women have traditionally been put under all manner of pressure to amend their appearance to suit men. Compared to foot-binding, a little moisturiser and deodorant and attention to the fit and style of clothing (and regular bathing, for a value of regular that means "not less than once a day")are incredibly reasonable demands. And men who do not wish to be favourably noticed by women (or indeed, other men, as the case may be)obviously need not comply.
