Vanity of vanities

A while back, Mary Robinette Kowal published a very sound piece on the sfwa website on the value of good presentation for writers at conventions.
My morning so far has included the following:
leg waxing
hair dyeing (purple, by request of the marquis)
underarm shaving
much exercising (which is a daily thing)
face scrubbing
careful selection of clothing (two dresses, both just above the knee, the longer of my two mini-skirts, my posh frock just-in-case, tops, underwear, nightwear, outer wear) make-up and jewellery for wearing at the con.
All of which is part of my normal pre-con ritual. The professional writer bit? Ummm... remembering to take a couple of copies of LWG in case.
It's official. I'm vain.

Hmmm. Good presentation eh? I can think of several writers whose definition is pretty flexible on that *g*

I have never understood why filth is considered part of pro-dom. Clean is best.

One should always make sure that one's nightwear and dressing-gown are respectable, so that one may maintain a soignee appearance even if one's hotel is suddenly being evacuated in the middle of the night. Boudoir slippers should also have sensible heels, so as not to impede one's rapid departure from the scene if necessary.

Yes, absolutely. (A male friend who a) sleeps naked and b) sleepwalks, has a very funny tale of the consequences of not bringing sensible and proper night attire.)
