What?

This is the kind of thing that does not endear the US right to Europe. It's also utter nonsense.

Yep, that's also sickening.

I wasn't aware the US right did anything to endear itself to Europe.

Ah. A bit of miscommunication. The phrase the "US right" to me means the rightwing political elements, who almost without exception did not vote for Obama.

Oh, indeed. But the US right is so noisy that it tends to overshadow almost every other aspect of the US in European eyes, plus our media do love to do features on that side of things. The antics of the right about Obama, however, have worked to make us even keener on him over here: if they hate him that much, he is definitely a good thing.

The US Right hasn't endeared itself to the rest of the US, either.

Those comments of ex-General Whozat were disgusting.

One of the great evils of the US right is how it misrepresents the country it claims to speak for. While I guess there are American who agree with him, I don't know any such and I do know many Americans who are as horrified as we are.

When I read that, what the General said, I facepalmed mightily.

[identity profile] peake.livejournal.com 2010-03-20 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
And the general's remarks are denied, unequivocally, not only by the Dutch government (who point out that the Dutch army is fighting very bravely and with high morale in Afghanistan regardless of sexuality) but also by the Dutch general who was allegedly being quoted. It seems that the general's testimony to Congress was in fact a lie.

It's a sad comment on the last ten years that I know longer expect the truth of any kind from such people.

I'm sorry, it just made me laugh. Someone should go and tell the Spartans.

He'd probably be deeply suspicious of them too!

this doesn't endear the US to many of its own citizens, either. If we weren't in love with the desert and had the money to move, we'd move.

Seriously.

(tho I'm sure we'd find wherever we moved to had its own problems; I frequently want to move the fuck out of this whole global society but dunno how to find another one)
