Today

No real writing today -- a bit of tweaking. I'm about to embark on the rewriting of Grass King before it goes out to meet its fate. Otherwise, I have been douce and law-abiding and caught up on Vector stuff.

In other areas, do I need to be on FaceBook, do you think?

I was very wary of FB but since we went onto it in the spring, have thoroughly enjoyed it. The lack of posting space is sometimes an issue, but I've had very few problems with anyone on it. There are a lot of people in ceremonial magic, e.g., who are not on LJ and some very interesting discussions. Recommended.

Thank you! I will go and look -- do I need an invitation or some such?

[identity profile] mevennen.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no invite. It's easy to set up, too.

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] mevennen. I have been wondering about FB myself.

If you over, La Marquise, I may well do so too . . . I've been thinking about using my real name there for promotional purposes, though, which I'm not sure is wise or the opposite.

Let me know if you do. I am on as one of the umpteen LWs, but using my real name has not given rise to any problems so far and I'm not particularly choosy about who I 'friend'.

I have done it and joined up as "Katharine Kerr".

Wah: can't work out which one is you!

[identity profile] aberwyn.livejournal.com 2009-12-04 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
I have added a "kit" in the middle!

[identity profile] kateelliott.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, if you go, use your real name. Readers will find you, and be happy to have done so.

There are a lot of people on FB that don't show up at LJ. I consider them both essential social networking sites, although I do nothing at FB except play games and keep up with the friends who don't do LJ.

So yes.

I joined FB this summer to keep up with family, since that's where folks were posting pictures of the kids. Still struggling with distinction between facebook versus livejournal posts, and topics for friends/family on FB versus public topics for friends/fans/random passersby that I post on LJ.

Facebook only if you want to be. A lot of people are using it (I'm on Facebook and Twitter) as a way to make short updates. The usual problems apply: way too much noise and games and links and such compared to actual substantive "quick update" posts. But, that's life everywhere.

im on facebook. i use it a lot for pointless distractions. but one of my fav writers, patrick rothfuss is there, and it's nice to know what he's up to. makes him seem more real. i also have afan group and page on there, as an easy way to tell people about my work. although most of the people in those groups are friends from here, or real life, so i would have told them about it anyway!

I'm on, and so are lots of others on my flist. It can be a huge time suck, so I try only to add apps/games that are quick or that are real things like scrabble, so I can interact with people.

It's a really nice way to keep in touch with people, in the short run. I've got a much better idea what's going on with my sisters and cousins, and since we've been on FB, we also communicate more by phone and email.

For my LJ friends, primary communication is still on LJ.

You probably don't want to be on Facebook. I certainly don't.

But you might need to be on Facebook. I kind of use it as my public face - a one stop where people can find me if they need to. That means I let students friend me, for example, and also keep it fairly bland.

I've found the games to be terribly distracting. Farmville is entirely addictive. You have been warned!

[identity profile] footlingagain.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm on Facebook. I was invited by a friend.

I hate it *g*

I only joined to keep in touch with the people who've abandoned LJ for it and I don't even do that! I am SUCH a bad example. It is a good way to keep in touch, if you make an effort - and it's really obvious that you do.

If you do go on, friend me if you like - though as a networking ploy it will avail you little as I am still Billy Six Mates ;-) I use my real name, as on Wonderlands - which I really like, actually, but I don't go on there either at the moment.....

[identity profile] miintikwa.livejournal.com 2009-12-02 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Let me know when you join! I want to befriend you there. :)

It would be nice to see you on Facebook. I mostly do it for fun and social contact, but I think it might be a handy author tool. Some people are members and do nothing at all, though.

What name are you there as?
