So Michael Howard is standing down. And Cambridge has a new, Lib Dem MP. Two ups to a result which otherwise isn't quite enough. I wanted to see Blair's majority cut right back far enough to restore back bench (and yes, left wing) influence. I would have liked far more Lib Dems and fewer Tories. Where now? Nowhere I'm sanguine about, it seems.

Assuming that as opposition leader he would get some form of police or other protection, we could have the lovely sight of Boris on bike flanked by his minders--presumably also on bikes.
