Oh, but don't you know, the fact that we don't want to hang around people who direct bullying tactics and/or hate speech against us is "proof" that we are rejecting them for their politics?

On a more positive note, many of the people they nominated are publicly taking a stand against that kind of misbehavior--most of them withdrawing or attempting to withdraw their nominations. That makes me feel better about my community, while still feeling bad for the nominees in question.
I am proud to see that so many people in the speculative fiction field (both pros and fans) care more about the integrity of the award than about winning it. The bullies (no matter where they might be found on the political spectrum, and no matter how loud they are) are not in the majority here.
