I have encountered (and on occasion used to my advantage) degree snobbery around tech, because of course technology degrees are so much better. Yeah, right. I think people can get away with this because there is so much math fear in our cultures, and also because tech degrees are mostly held by men. To me, math is ridiculously easy. Languages? History? History in another language?! Scary and difficult.

Long ago when my older brother was first driving, he got in a minor traffic accident. My mother had gone down to the police department to get a copy of the incident report, so she could give is to our insurance company. The officer was being condescending to her, and addressed her as "Mary".

"That's Dr. Williams," said my mother. And his attitude changed instantly. Hah!
