I've heard the term "branded on the tongue." I know there are class/regional differences, but as to what they are?? A thousand little things.
The US version may be less defined, but it exists. And living as I do near some very posh towns, I sense the differences between my lower middle class background** and what I assume to be theirs. Differences in haircut, physical conditioning, bearing. And of course, I get pegged by the shopkeepers immediately.
Parents were blue collar/pink collar. As far as I can guess, I am middle middle class.
