The bribing of cats is a serious thing...

Ish has stopped gaining weight quite as quickly as he did at the start of the new diet, so I have been experimenting with new ways to get food down him. Today, I proudly present catnip-infused chicken! (See the woman who hates to cook cook when her cats are involved.)
Horus is very very impressed. Ish has yet to sample it.

(Ish is doing okay: the inflammation is reduced and he's full of energy and eating well. He's just not regaining weight at the rapid rate he did at the start.)

Skirt of the day: blue wedgewood.

Catnip infused chicken you say...remind me to try that the next time Phae's heath mysteriously goes south, like it does.

Wishing Ish a nice, pleasant weight gain.

Glad to hear the pusscats are doing well.

Send them round to the woman who loves to cook some time. :o)

Wishing Ish a pleasant increase in majesty.

[identity profile] athenais.livejournal.com 2012-10-09 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Ish, eat the nice food.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-10-09 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. He's regained just under half what he'd lost, and we're hoping for more. And he is full of bounce.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-10-09 06:05 pm (UTC)(link)
He is telling us that chicken is a bit dull: after all, he's had it every day for a month, now. Hence the new versions. (Garlic was popular, too.)

[identity profile] queenoftheskies.livejournal.com 2012-10-09 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Bribing cats is definitely an art.

[identity profile] saare-snowqueen.livejournal.com 2012-10-09 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad he's regained his bounce. That is often a surer indication of health than eating / weight gain. Good luck with your gourmet cat cooking. Maybe you should ask Gordon fr some tips - or Jamie. Neri says Mreouwww!

Try opening a tin of line-caught Alaskan salmon, the Really Expensive stuff. If Pandora ever learns how to open the tin herself, she will be the size of Boomer in no time.

(not a serious suggestion)

As others have said, bounce is a better indicator than weight gain. As with weight loss, we all hit plateaus...

[identity profile] were-gopher.livejournal.com 2012-10-09 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Bouncce is good. Mungo's the same, appetite variable but much more interested in stuff and bossing us about (plus drinking under a bowl of water a day now).

[identity profile] teriegarrison.livejournal.com 2012-10-09 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I demand that you send the recipe for the catnip chicken to my human immediately. If not sooner.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-10-09 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That's good news.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-10-09 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, it is. And they know it.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-10-09 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think that's what it is. He is eating well and seems in good form (and the end product is normal).

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-10-09 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone should write a cookbook, definitely!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-10-09 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
One piece of boneless, skinned chicken, several sprigs of fresh catnip. Rub the chicken with crushed catnip leaves then steam with a few more leaves until cooked.
Very easy, and it seems to be popular, especially with Horus (who does not need to eat more).

[identity profile] aliettedb.livejournal.com 2012-10-09 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Hahaha, that sounds like a nice bribe, er, I mean "meal".
Best wishes for Ish's weight!

Appetite doesn't seem to be a problem with my cats. In fact the black one just gets bigger and bigger. No matter how much he eats, he thinks he's starving. Mine are generally content with the store-bought stuff. But I do treat them with chicken and turkey when we humans have it.

Any time I make fish, the sit in front of the oven (or microwave) and cry while it bakes.

I have a recipe for fish in an herbed cream sauce that when I make it, I must lock the kitties away until we are done eating. But the last time I looked, I couldn't find the recipe :( I believe it had heavy cream, some lemon, and various herbs that taste good with fish.

You are very obediant to my wishes. Teach my human this kind of responsiveness. My human says I should thank you, but I Am Cat and that sort of thing is Beneath Me.

[identity profile] mevennen.livejournal.com 2012-10-10 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
Bounce is good. Does Ish like fish?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-10-10 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
My first cat was like that. He thought people food was the best thing ever. My current three are marginally better behaved. Mooncat likes to check what's on plates, in case she needs to eat it for us, and Horus will sneak up on chopping board. Ish, the cat who is on the special diet, has never been that interested in helping us cook.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-10-10 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
He does, but he's restricted to chicken and rice by the vet, as the cause of the weight loss is most probably diet-related inflammation.

[identity profile] anna-wing.livejournal.com 2012-10-10 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
This is the feline equivalent of hash brownies, isn't it?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-10-10 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
It may be, yes.

[identity profile] shewhomust.livejournal.com 2012-10-10 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't believe that [livejournal.com profile] desperance hasn't already invented that! Hope it works...

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-10-10 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It seems to be acceptable.
And yes, I'm surprised by that, too. Maybe he just never bothered to mention it? Being, as we know, famously laconic and silent...+

[identity profile] a-d-medievalist.livejournal.com 2012-10-11 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
Dear Ish,

please just eat the damned food. They'll just find nasty medicines if you don't.

xx,

Rose

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-10-11 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
I am eating it, but I keep hoping for more variety. Humans are so dull when they shop for us.
Pills are evil
Ish.

[identity profile] piratejenny.livejournal.com 2012-10-11 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
wow, that's impressive. Maybe I should sprinkle catnip on the food Watson refuses. Not cooking, mind you, just as a garnish. (Watson's not sick, just finicky.)

Hope Ish is doing better.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/la_marquise_de_/ 2012-10-11 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)
He might like that, I suspect.
