My birthday is next week. February is traditionally the big blizzard month in North Dakota -- or was until climate change began manifesting.

More than once the observance of my birthdays, and my brother's, who was born in March, got canceled due to blizzards. Grandparents and other relatives weren't able to drive due to the storm.

But even better than that! Once, during my birthday party with all the girls in my classroom (traditional -- moms picked us all up from school and drove everybody home about 7 PM for our birthday parties), a surveillance bomber jet crashed in one of our snowed over wheat fields. The whole place crawled with government and milatary security, who stayed up all night guarding the plane, which was towed into our yard until the right transport could be found to get it back to the air force base up north. The pilot and all the security people ate little girl's birthday cake, cookies and 'supper.' Plus gallons of mom's coffee.

Love, C.
