Changqing comes from somewhere in the centre of China, but she's lived in Cambridge long enough to have a son now at University. I suspect she tried to use Rebecca at first, and then found that people didn't take it seriously.

But maybe that's Cambridge.

On the other hand, a friend's new boyfriend's name looked initially to be English, which surprised us a little, given our friend's predilection for Asian guys. It turns out to be a certain surname that's common in both English and Chinese, and a given name of 'Yee Yan' turning into 'Ian'.
