Well, to quote Sam Gamgee, I'm back. Japan was astonishing: I can look at temples for days at a stretch, (and did). They were fabulous. I have walked on a nightingale floor. I have seen a thousand Kannons in one place. I've seen an 8th-century wooden temple whose architecture reflects that of Classical Greece (via India). I resisted the temptation to buy any charms (severe: I love that sort of thing). I had a lovely day out in Tokyo with a new writer friend looking at weird art and cute fashion. I have seen (and not bought, sadly) vampire cat boy porn. I acquired the long-wanted Anime San Jushi on dvd (Japanese anime of the Three Musketeers. It came with French subs, so I'll be able to follow it). I gave a reading at Worldon and several people who have never met me came to it. I have been served in a singing ice cream parlour. I have heard [livejournal.com profile] fjm giggle. Repeatedly. I hung out with the Cool People at Worldcon (and, [livejournal.com profile] frostfox, I have your Hugo nominee ribbon, pin and fan for you). I found a cute parasol for around five pounds sterling (and used it a lot -- and [livejournal.com profile] fjm has a matching one, because we could). I was in a typhoon (I've always wanted to be in a typhoon. Yes, I know, I'm strange.) I saw some of the msot beautiful gardens in the world. I had a very entertaining conversation in Chinese with a yougn man from Fujian province in a Chinese restaurant in Yokohama. I have been bitten on the rear by a deer. I stayed in a ryokan: heavenly. I saw the best masquerade interval entertainment ever (a four man sword group. Just stunning).
It may be the best holiday I've ever had.
And I came home with Yet Another Skirt. Go figure.

Did anyone of you out there send me a huge (and I mean *huge*) attachment by email sometime today? Because all of a sudden my email won't download, which is kind of worrying. I've been sent whole mss before now qithout problems, so I'd be guessing pictures (if size is the issue).
For the techno-geeks among you, I use Thunderbird and yes, my folders are all nicely compacted.
EDIT: the marquis solved it for me by phone. It was a junk mail that was, effectively, stuck in the teeth of my mail folder. It's deleted now. Heh.
