I have to go down to London this Thursday (May 17th) for a workshop type thing on St James' Street. It finishes at 5.00 pm, and as I'm not at all keen on braving the horrors of the Cambridge rush hour return trains, I was wondering if anyone wanted to meet up for a coffee or similar early evening (I need to get home for around 8.30, so dinner isn't an option). I can find most things in Central London if I work at it so will happily come and meet someone somewhere.

drplokta's suggestion of Patisserie Valerie suit, or is it too likely to be full? (Please bear in mind that it's hard for me to suggest anywhere by name, as I generally know London coffee venues as things like 'that Chinese bakery near the old Murder One', or 'that place somewhere near Covent Garden that X likes'. Or, indeed, 'that really good Chinese bakery with the great tiled door' -- which I would suggest (it's on Gerard St) except that it doesn't do tea and coffee etc, being a shop.
Reviewing this I notice that most of the places I think of are near or in Chinatown. Oh dear, I'm my own cliche.
